Every August I get so excited to start planning my birthday. I love picking out a theme and seeing it all come together. I usually start planning a month in advance to make sure everything arrives on time since I purchase my decorations online. Since I am celebrating my golden birthday this year I knew I wanted the theme to revolve around the color gold. I wanted a few other colors so I decided on blush pink and white as well. I love the combination of those three colors. I wanted a tropical element to the party so I chose to incorporate pineapples.
My tableware is from a company called Harlow and Grey, and it’s from their Goddess collection. I purchased the gold and white pineapples and the gold glass terrarium from TJ Maxx. I purchased white rocks from Hobby Lobby and placed them in the terrarium with a flower inside. The Wanderlust picture is from etsy and I love the gold foil I think it’s gorgeous. I wanted to make my own pineapple confetti, but I was unable to find a hold puncher that I liked. Fortunately, I was able to find gold glitter pineapple confetti on etsy. I purchased the gold number balloons at Michaels, but I recommend buying them from party city instead and order ahead of time as they don’t always keep each number in stock. One of my balloons popped as soon as I walked through the door and luckily they had that number in stock. The garland behind the balloons is from Wal Mart. The tassels on the balloons I made myself. I found a great video on you tube that was very easy to follow. The gold foil tissue paper is from Michaels. It is tedious making them, but they turned out so well that it was worth it. I also purchased some scrapbooking paper that matched the party theme and decorated them with photographs.
My mom prepared all of the food for the party . She is an amazing cook who can just look at a recipe and it comes out perfectly. For drinks we kept it simple and served water and an assortment of juices. For food we had a pineapple salsa which we served in these adorable pineapple bowls which are from Home Goods. We had a bean dip which is one of my all time favorite party foods. We served some Bosnian bread called lepanja and Bosnian sausage called cevapi, and dried meat called suvo meso. We had a mixed salad with onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers. We also had deviled eggs and an assortment of fresh fruits. The large round plates that the fruit was served on are from party city. My favorite food was the chicken kebobs with peppers, pineapple, and onions. My mom also made the cake and it tasted just as good as it looked. The bottom layer was a lemon sponge cake with fresh strawberries and the top tier was a creamy chocolate and nut cake (my personal favorite). The flowers were made out of gum paste and hand painted.
I had the party start at three in the afternoon. I think it’s such a great way to be able to gather with your friends and catch up with one another. Life can get so busy with work, school, and kids, so setting a day aside that we can all be together is so special to me. I had family there, friends from middle school, high school, and college. I love that we are all able to hang out together and have a good time. We all love board games and we tried a new one out this year called reverse charades which was a lot of fun. Instead of one person acting and the rest of the group guessing it was the opposite. The other game we really enjoyed playing was telestrations and it’s like the game of telephone but sketched out. It was such a hot day out for late September but we braced the heat and took some pictures outside. The poses we took reminded me of homecoming it was so funny. It was such a wonderful party and I am so grateful to God for allowing me to have another wonderful year, for such amazing family and friends who take time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with me. Thank you to everyone for all the Birthday Wishes and for celebrating with me.
