Ocean Drive

No visit to Miami is complete without a stop at the historic Ocean Drive. The buildings that line the street were constructed in the 1920’s. These beautiful buildings were neglected for many years, and almost ended up demolished. They have since been restored to their original state. The area is referred to as the Art Deco Historic District, and lies between 5th and 23rd street. I love anything vintage so this was definitely one of the top things I wanted to see in Miami. One of my favorite things to do on vacation is sight-seeing. Having the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful architecture was definitely a highlight of my trip. I promise you will not be disappointed by the vibrant colors and rich history if you add this to your list of places to see.

I am going to sidetrack a bit from my trip to Miami and tell you about the fun two days I had in Chicago. My cousin lives about an hour away from me, and I haven’t seen her in almost a year! We both are busy with full-time jobs,  and I work certain weekends so it can get hard to plan a night or two out. It’s something we both agreed we would do more of. We met for lunch at Pinstripes. I highly recommend this restaurant they have a great food selection. The waitress even brought out a separate gluten-free menu for me. There is also an indoor bowling alley. After lunch we headed over to our hotel to check in. On our way to the hotel we hit that lovely chicago traffic, so by the time we checked into our hotel and got ready it was pretty late. The girl checking us in at the front desk was Bosnian so we had a nice chat with her. We ended up missing both the concert and the taste of Chicago due to the traffic, but we still had a great night.

Our first stop was at the Buckingham Fountain, and it was so beautiful all light up at night. Then we stopped for food at the Velvet Taco. I had a lettuce wrapped taco which I know doesn’t sound too appetizing, but I promise it was delicious. After that we went out dancing at Nacional 27, and the place was dead. However, it was a nice change from an overcrowded night club, and from people stepping on my feet. Anytime I have gone out dancing, people step on my toes multiple times. I’m not really sure why I have this problem. Afterwards, we ubered back to our hotel, and called it a night.

I woke up the next morning dead tired, and that’s how you know you are getting old! The next day we made it to the Taste of Chicago! It was a boiling hot day out. My favorite thing that I ate was by far this vegan and gluten-free cupcake. I definitely made some not so good food options as well. I find it very difficult to eat healthy at festivals. I noticed that many people get frustrated when you ask for a list of ingredients, or they simply do not know what the ingredients are. Eating healthy when you are out at an event is definitely not a simple task. It’s okay to have a cheat day every once in a while as well so I will consider it mine. I really enjoyed spending these last two days with my cousin, that girl spoils me way too much! We plan on going to a Shakira concert next month so I can’t wait to tell you guys all about that! Thank you all so much for reading. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

xoxo
