Valentine’s Day 2018

Remember being a kid in Elementary School on Valentine’s Day? I loved receiving all the sweet cards from my classmates. The teacher always had fun activities and candy for everyone. They were such simple, but sweet gestures that I remember and cherish to this day. To me Valentine’s Day is about love. This can be love for your children, significant other, friends, parents, pets, etc. One of my best friends posted an Instagram story of her and her daughter doing arts and crafts and that’s what it’s really all about. It’s not about fancy dinners or jewelry, but rather spending time with the ones you love, and making new memories.

I have always wanted to do a photo shoot on Valentine’s Day with roses. I wanted to do something a little different from the traditional pinks and reds of Valentine’s Day, so I went with white roses and a beautiful white lace detail top. Thankfully it was about thirty degrees and sunny outside so I could bear the weather to snap some pictures. Statement sleeves are one of the biggest fashion trends this year. This top is so sweet and romantic, but the sleeves are what really drew me to this top, they are a real showstopper. I even managed to get a few good shots in with my cats which I assure you was not an easy task!

I stopped into one of my favorite local shops to pick up their limited edition chocolate covered strawberry lip balm and I am so happy I did. The minute I opened the balm it smelled just like chocolate covered strawberries. I was very temped to eat it. I also picked up a hazelnut candle which is currently burning while I’m writing this post and it smells amazing! If you can’t have coffee at least you can smell it right !?

If you are a single gal like me on Valentine’s Day there are so many things you can do! First of all treat yourself! You are hard-working and deserving of it. Pamper yourself by doing something as simple as taking a bath or getting a massage. Bake a new dessert. Have a movie marathon. Celebrate Galentine’s Day with your girlfriends by getting a bite to eat or having a game night. Try a new class at your gym. Or simply stay home in your jammies and enjoy some you time! Whatever your plans were this Valentine’s Day I hope you all had a wonderful day !

Cave of Mounds

The Cave of Mounds is a National Natural Landmark in Wisconsin. It’s a natural limestone cave that was discovered by accident. The day we went on the tour it was raining cats and dogs outside. The only thing we had to shield ourselves from the weather was one little umbrella. To make things worse there was quite a walk from the parking lot to the location of the tour. We got there a little early (yes I was shocked too) so we decided to look around the two gift shops for a bit. Once our tour group was called we had to watch a small educational video and then we were led down into the caves. Keep in mind we went in the middle of the summer so it was very warm out, but the caves are a cool 50 degrees year round. Make sure to dress appropriately as we saw people there in shorts and t-shirts that froze their butts off.

We had a very small tour group so there were many opportunities to stop and take pictures which I liked. I would recommend wearing a hat if you don’t want your head to get wet, as small droplets of water were constantly coming down on us. The tour guide called the rain drops “cave kisses” and he said they were good luck. Well we definitely received a lot of good luck that day. The cave is fully lighted and is equipped with stairs. I do need to mention that there are some very narrow ares you have to squeeze through. For this reason the caves are not wheelchair accessible or stroller friendly. The tour lasted an hour and by the time the tour ended the weather had cleared up and we walked around the property and enjoyed the grounds. The scariest part of the tour was when the guide turned the lights off and we were in total darkness. It was cool to just listen to the water drops coming down, but it was terrifying at the same time. I was very happy when the lights came back on. The rock formations were so beautiful and it was amazing that they were millions of years old. Overall, I really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to you guys. Thanks for reading.

Thanksgiving 2017

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. I was lucky enough to have the day off to spend with my family. I decided to try a new recipe for the first time, and I was very happy with how it turned out. I love searching through Pinterest for just about anything, including recipes. I bought all natural and organic ingredients and made a sweet potato casserole. I cut up and boiled six sweet potatoes. Then I mashed them up and added butter, pumpkin spice, vanilla extract and brown sugar. Once all the ingredients were mixed I placed my sweet potato mixture in a pan and topped it with pecans and marshmallows. I baked this for 15 minutes and that was it! Such an easy and healthy dessert. Cooking is actually a lot of fun, it’s the cleanup that I am not very fond of. In addition to the dessert my mom make turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, and lettuce.  I really enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving because who doesn’t want an excuse to eat delicious food and think of all the things to be grateful for. After dinner I was so wiped out and stuffed I ended up taking a nap. After that we played some games and things got pretty competitive. We played one of my favorite games called Taboo. If you guys have never heard of this game, I highly recommend purchasing it for game nights.

Today was such a gorgeous day I had to take advantage of the sixty degree weather and do a photo shoot. We found this abandoned train and car and it made for the most beautiful backdrop. I love things that look vintage and rustic and this location was perfect. It was a little spooky at the same time because I couldn’t help but think of investigation discovery and those shows of missing people being found in places like this one. I think I just watch too many of those shows. I am not sure if the place was truly abandoned or part of someones property so we made it a quick photo shoot just in case the owner decided to send his dog our way because I have had that happen during a photo shoot and it was no fun.

The dress I am wearing is one of my all time favorites. The dress is from a boutique called Francesca’s. I love the cold shoulders and the ties on the sleeves. The little v-neck and the cut of the dress are so cute. It’s seriously the perfect t-shirt dress and my favorite part is that it has pockets! I don’t know what it is about pockets, but I am obsessed with them on dresses I think they are so cute. I will have the dress linked below, and it’s on sale! The ultimate must have item for fall are over the knee-boots. My boots are from JcPenny and are on major sale as well. I will have the boots linked below as well. They look amazing when paired with dresses. I love these because they are nude and can be paired with just about anything. I topped the outfit off with one of my favorite statement earring from Charming Charlie’s. I hope you guys get some inspiration from my post. I had a blast shooting this one. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for reading!

House on the Rock

The house on the rock is a really neat tourist attraction in Wisconsin. It has been open since the 1940s and it was created by a man named Alex Jordan. We saw some of the most unusual and whimsical attractions that you would think only existed in a storybook. It was really like stepping into another world for the day. The nice thing about this attraction is that it’s open year round. We chose the ultimate experience which included all of the attractions, and I must say it was a bit too much for one day. My feet were on fire by the end of the day. I was wearing sandals which was a huge mistake. Wear comfortable sneakers if you are going here, your feet will thank you. I feel like you really can’t enjoy everything the place has to offer in one day, because towards the end we were so tired we couldn’t wait to be done. I would recommend going in the summertime so that you can enjoy the outdoor gardens. When they said it would take several hours to tour the entire place I was thinking maybe if we moved at a snail’s pace, but boy was I wrong this place was massive!

One of my favorite parts of the museum was the infinity room. I was a little skeptical walking out on a 218 foot long projection considering when it was built, but it was definitely worth it because the views were amazing.  They had many automated music machines and I had never seen anything quite like that.  It was a little spooky, like the place was haunted and the instruments were playing themselves. Another one of my favorite attractions was the carousel! It is actually the world’s largest and it didn’t have your typical horses, but instead mythical creatures and exotic animals. Outside of the museum stood these giant flower pots with dragons on them. I absolutely loved these they made for some great pictures. Some of the other exhibits I really enjoyed were the early 20th century America, the nautical exhibit, the Japanese exhibit, and the WWII exhibit. There were many more exhibits,  but those were my favorites.

My only complaint about this place would have to be the dust. I am very sensitive to dust due to my allergies and the place was extremely dusty. That being said, the place is massive so I’m not sure how they would keep up with all the dusting. If you’re like me and have bad allergies or asthma,  I must say I don’t recommend this place for you. If you don’t struggle with either of those issues this would be a great place to visit. Definitely one of those things you want to see at least once in your lifetime. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Thank you for reading!

Ko Olina Ocean Adventures

One of my favorite things I was able to experience in Hawaii was snorkeling. I’m not talking about getting in the water by the shore and snorkeling, but rather going out on the boat and getting dropped in the middle of the ocean! It was such a surreal experience. The morning of the tour we were running late and the moment we found a parking spot, I ran as fast as I could to check in and they laughed saying they would have wanted for us, phew! It was a small group of twenty people or so. They provided all of the necessary equipment such as a mask, snorkel, and flippers. I recommend bringing snacks and using the restroom beforehand as there is not one on the boat. They made everyone put on a life jacket, which we were able to remove later once in the water. The speedboat is just that, speedy! If you have a sensitive stomach and get queasy easily I reccomend taking some medication before getting on. I was pretty nauseated, thankfully I didn’t vomit. The workers on the boat were so much fun and they made the experience a great one!

The first time jumping out was pretty scary and the water was so cold! Think about it, you’re in the middle of the ocean and someone tells you to jump in, it’s kind of terrifying, but such a rush at the same time. They gave each of us a handful of food and we were able to feed the beautiful fish. It was so cool to see the way they swam up to us. After we fed the fish they took us to a spot that was known for having turtles. Not only did I see one turtle, but I saw two! I swam side by side with the turtle and I was just in awe at the beauty of these creatures. Speaking of turtles, it was my patient’s birthday this week and she really likes turtles. I went down to the gift shop and bought what I thought was a turtle. One of my coworkers saw it and said that’s a frog! I never laughed so hard in my life. We ended up saying that it was a turtle that came out of its shell. After swimming with the turtles, the last thing we did was try to find some dolphins and this proved to be very difficult as they were afraid of the boat. We were able to see them, but not swim with them or really get any good pictures of them. After we made it back I was exhausted! They served us lunch after the ride which was great as I had definitely worked up an appetite. Overall, this was such an amazing experience and I highly reccomend it if you guys are visiting Hawaii!
